Porsche 918 Officially Approved For Production

918 spyder at Porsche 918 Officially Approved For Production

Porsche managing board finally approved the their most amazing 918 Spyder for production as a replacement for the legendary Carrera GT. This plug-in hybrid supercar which was the star of this year’s Geneva Motor Show received a very warm welcome from both press and people and that was enough reason for Porsche to turn this concept into reality, even though in limited number.

The concept version of the car promises some amazing numbers. It’s hybrid powertrain is capable of producing over 700 hp while it can average 3.0 litre/100 km (94.1 mpg imp) with CO2 emissions of just just 70 g/km. We’re not sure which one of this stunning numbers will make into the production model, but rest assured it will be quite incredible.

Apart from technicalities, the car also looks very good. OK, maybe not as good as the Carrera GT, but it’s very modern and yet retains Porsche’s classic features as well. Then again, the production version might be different.

Press Release:

Michael Macht, President and Chairman of the Board of Management of Porsche AG: “Production of the 918 Spyder in a limited series proves that we are taking the right approach with Porsche Intelligent Performance featuring the combination of supreme performance and efficient drivetrain concepts. We will develop the 918 Spyder in Weissach and assemble it in Zuffenhausen. This is also a very important commitment to Germany as a manufacturing base.”
