It would be nice if GM supplied this 240V home charging unit with the Chevrolet Volt, but they don’t! And you are going to have to pay $490 USD for it, excluding installation (that can cost up to $1,475 USD!). This charger is supplied by SPX Service Solutions, a national provider of home charging installation services and equipment. It still takes 4 hours to recharge you batteries with this thing, but it’s much better than the standard’s 10 hours!

In addition to Chevrolet’s Voltec unit, SPX will sell a variety of home charging stations and manage all aspects of installation for Volt owners, including the home survey, installation, permitting, Department of Energy and utility coordination, and identification of available programs and incentives for reduced charging rates.
