These days there’s such a huge demand, specially in Europe, for small, efficient, and cutesy cars so it’s not a surprise when a car like Peugeot 107 reaches very high numbers in sale! Recently the 500,000th unit of the 107 rolled off the production line at the TPCA (Toyota Peugeot Citroen Automobile) car production lines in Kolin, in the Czech Republic.
This tiny 3.43 m city car which is powered by 3-cylinder, 998 cc, Euro 5 petrol engine, developing 50 kW (68 hp), is marketed in almost 60 countries but Europe is the biggest one for it. It really has no interesting features, but has very good fuel economy at 4.5 l/100 km, with CO2 emissions of 103 g/km.
Despite the bumpy ride for European markets in the past two years, the production volumes of the 107 have remained on an upward curve, at the very limits of the installed capacity: from 101,700 in 2006 (first full year), they rose to 104,600 in 2007, then 108,200 in 2008 and 116,100 in 2009. At end September 2010, France accounted for 27% of total sales of the 107, ahead of Italy (19%), the United Kingdom (15%), Germany (10%) and the Netherlands (7 %).
