General Motors announced official fuel consumption figures for the 2011 Chevrolet Cruze Eco, and it achieves an EPA-estimated 42 mpg on the highway and 28 mpg city. These numbers are for models with manual transmission. That’s a great number considering capabilities of Cruze’ Ecotec 1.4L turbo engine that delivers 138 horsepower (103 kW) and 148 lb.-ft. of torque (200 Nm).
Chevy Cruze Eco does not beat the hybrids if yo just consider the mpg rating, but it does when you include the price of the car in the equation. Starting at just $18,895 it is considerably less expensive than all of the hybrids in the market today.
“Chevrolet Cruze continues to redefine the compact segment, offering class-leading standard safety features, upscale amenities – as well as hybrid-like fuel economy without the price,” said Chuck Russell, vehicle line director. “The Cruze Eco is in a league of its own and will challenge perceptions of the efficiency available in a more affordable non-hybrid.”
