Just a few weeks after the first rumors about a smaller version of the Porsche Cayenne, called the Cajun, surfaced on the Internet, the company officially confirmed this plan and also the name. The Cajun is due in 2014 and will be Porsche’s rival for the new Range Rover Evoque. It’s going to be efficient and sporty.
The amazing success of the Cayenne and then the Panamera, proved that no matter how ugly a car is, if it’s got a Porsche badge people will buy it! Based on the initial renderings we’ve seen of the Cajun, being sporty and all, it’s going to look nicer than the current Cayenne. It will also spawn a two-door version.
Porsche’s official statement regarding the Cajun:
During its meeting today, the Supervisory Board of Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, laid the foundations for continuous and successful growth of the company. The Supervisory Board instructed the Board of Management to drive forward the development of a further model series up to series production. Under the working name “Cajun”, this efficient and sporty model will further expand the world’s most successful Porsche segment in the SUV sector. In addition to the new Cayenne, which has clearly consolidated its market position as the most successful sporty SUV in the premium segment, the “Cajun” will also have a very positive impact with its typical Porsche features such as light weight, ease of handling and agility. As an attractive entry model in the Porsche world, the “Cajun” will attract new and even younger customers to the premium brand along with the Boxster, the market leader in the segment of two-seater, mid-size sports cars.
