For those of you who don’t know, Vertias is a German bespoke sportscar maker, something like Caterham. They just announced a hybrid version of their RSIII which at 205 mph is currently the fastest plug-in hybrid in the world.

The Hybrid gets the same BMW M5 V1 engine that churns out 507 hp, but it also gets a 100 hp electric motor that powers the front wheels. So you get a 600 hp all-wheel-drive car that goes from zero to 60 mph in 3.1 seconds and can reach a 205 mph.

This of course is not yet a production model and remains a prototype, but the technology in this car is quite fascinating. It features Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS) which turns the wasted energy of braking into electricity to charge the batteries. It can also drive 31 miles on electric power alone in which case it’s a front wheel drive zero-emission car.

Veritas has plans to launch a coupe and an all-electric version of the RS by 2013.
