Porsche Boxster at New Details On 2012 Porsche Boxster

If Car Magazine’s sources are to be believed, the next generation Porsche Boxster 981 will be an entirely new vehicle.

The third generation Boxster is said to have a new cab-forward design which features new and exciting lines that totally set it apart from the current model. The car will longer be a discount 911 for those who can’t afford the full-fat model. It will gain its own identity. It will also grow in size by 60mm in wheelbase, and 37mm in length. But the roof will be shorter by 10mm and the front overhang will be cut as well by 25mm.

The new model will also be lighter, not by much, just 15 kg, but along with other tweaks here and there like uprated multi-link suspension and dual-clutch gearbox should make it even better handling-wise.

According to the sources, Porsche is also developing a new flat-four engine with a displacement of 2.5-litre which with some help from a twin-turbo system makes 360bhp and 347lb ft. But that is still a long way away. It is planned for 2015. Until then, the current range of 2.7 and 3.4 liter flat-six units will power the Boxster, although with deep refinements for better performance and fuel consumption.
