Everyone’s favorite sedan Ford Mondeo is now available with a range of upgraded powertrains which offer better economy and performance at the same time.
The range includes 1.6, 2.0 and 2.2-litre petrol and diesel engines, all tuned for hte best compromise between lower consumption and decent power output. The 1.6 liter 115PS TDCi diesel and EcoBoost 160PS petrol units boast Auto-Start-Stop as standard. The diesel unit as the most economical version returns up to 65.7mpg for both five-door and estate bodystyles and CO2 emissions of 147 g/km.
The petrol EcoBoost units benefit from direct injection, turbo charging and variable cam timing, so the 1.6 EcoBoost delivers up to 160PS, 44.1mpg and 149g CO2/km – 20 per cent better than the 2.0-litre 145PS petrol.
Other options include 2.0-litre EcoBoost 203 and 240PS range-topping petrol, and a premium 2.2 TDCi 200PS diesel with 420Nm of torque (450Nm with overboost) while retaining fuel economy at an impressive 47.1mpg.
Becasue f the Auto-Start-Stop system, the engines come with durable starter motor to support the increased number of engine starts and a high performance Improved Flooded (IF) Battery with a Voltage Quality Module (VQM) – this maintains the energy supply to electrical components such as the entertainment system during engine restart – plus a Battery Monitoring System (BMS).
The latest Ford models also use smart new ‘active’ aerodynamic features to cut drag, resulting in fuel savings and reduced emissions. Mounted in the grille aperture ahead of the radiator, Ford’s Active Grille Shutter features motorised horizontal vanes which can rotate through 90 degrees to block the air flow. The new Ford Active Grille Shutter is standard on the new Ford Focus and an option with the 1.6- and 2.0-litre EcoBoost and 1.6- and 2.0-litre Duratorq engines on the Ford Mondeo, Galaxy and S-MAX.
