After spilling the beans on the next Enzo, Ferrari CEO also reveals more details on the replacement for the 599.
According to Amedeo Felisa the successor to the 599, due in 2012, will have more than 700 hp, so presumably it will still be powered by the same V12 that makes 612 in the GTB and 670 in the GTO. Felisa hasn’t revealed whether the new 599 will get hybrid or KERS.
Unlike the next Enzo which will get a carbon-composite structure, the 599 will be made largely of aluminum. Carbon will increase the cost of the car dramatically, while its weight advantages over aluminum are not significant.
The current 599, even in its basic GTB form, is a very complete GT car with lots of equipments, a boot, and mind-boggling performance. It’s just a bit too technical, and that makes it a bit cold. The next model will be even more of an engineer’s car and will offer greater performance. So it’s down to the design to make up for the lack of mechanical soul!
