McLaren F1 Successor: New Details and Rendering

F1 successor at McLaren F1 Successor: New Details and Rendering

CAR Magazine spills the beans on the spiritual successor to McLaren F1 and releases a drawing to show us what it will – almost certainly – look like.

Codenamed McLaren P12, this hyper car is currently in the clay model phase, but it will be ready in time for a 2013 debut.

Unlike the MP4-12C, this new McLaren will have a very fancy design which according to CAR’s insider ‘looks like something out of iRobot.’ To us, it looks like the love child of a Pagani Zonda and a McLaren MP4-12C. It’s certainly got the visual presence, we just hope it gets a cool name as well.

The P12 features a carbon Monocell structure similar to the MP4’s, but seeing as the P12 is going to cost around €750,000, there’s no limit and designers and engineers can be very generous with carbon fiber to make the car as light as possible.

Engine-wise, it will get the same 3.8 liter twin-turbo as the MP4-12C but with an output of around 800bhp. It will be paired with a KERS system featuring a big red boost button on the F1-style steering wheel which provides bursts of electric power for overtaking.
