Jaguar is seriously thinking about launching an R-S version of the XF saloon to keep the game up with Mercedes and BMW.

The XFR-S will have the same recipe as the XKR-S, with a 550hp supercharged V8, and sportier appearance and chassis. The normal XFR with 500hp is deemed too weak to confront the new 560hp BMW M5, and 550hp Mercedes E63 AMG.

The range-topping XFR-S will be getting a more aggressive styling, on the line with the XKR-S, and it will also get the same awesome exhaust system. It’s not likely to cause the German rivals any major trouble, but like the old S-Type R it will be the underdog that sometimes makes more sense than the big boys.

So this £70k super saloon won’t be better than the M5, but it’ll just as good, and frankly, that’s enough.
