‘Macan’ has been confirmed as the official name of Porsche’s new crossover. We have its teaser rendering and video here, hot out of the oven!

So far we knew this car as the Porsche Cajun. But the official announcement released by Porsche reveals the car’s real name as Macan. It means Tiger in Indonesian language, and refers to the car’s superior power, agility, and dynamism.

“The Macan combines all sports car characteristics with the benefits of a SUV and is a genuine Porsche”, said Bernhard Maier, Member of the Executive Board Sales and Marketing of Porsche AG. “The name of a new Porsche has to fit with the brand, sound good in very many languages and dialects and evoke positive associations.”

Production of the Porsche Macan will begin in 2013 in Leipzig, so a late 2012 debut can be expected.
