Chevrolet confirmed the new 2013 Malibu, going on sale this summer, will be available with new Ecotec 2.0L turbo engine. They are actually shooting one of their legs, because this fabulous engine renders the Ecotec 2.5 liter pointless.
The 2.5 liter unit makes 197 horsepower (147 kW) and 191 lb.-ft. of torque (259 Nm), which is not bad. But this new 2.o liter turbo engine develops 259 horsepower (193 kW) and 260 lb.-ft. of torque (353 Nm). With this engine the car does 0 to 60 in in 6.3 seconds. It’s a complete no-brainer.
What’s more, it features direct injection and start-stop technology with regenerative braking and a lightweight lithium-ion battery to provide an electric boost in certain conditions (eAssist system), so it also delivers a GM-estimated 25 mpg in the city 37 mpg on the highway.
The new Malibu will have a base price of $25,995, including a $760 destination charge, when it goes on sale. With those specs and this price, the car is expected to enjoy the same enormous success the Cruze enjoyed.
