Infiniti’s superb new concept car finally gets official at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show.
The EMERG-E as they call it, previews the new halo model for the Japanese car maker. It is supposed to be a living, breathing example of the company’s slogan ‘Inspired Performance’ and for that reason it features a fabulous design, and awesome technologies.
This car is Infiniti’s first go at making a mid-engined sports car. It was designed and developed in Europe. It’s nothing like a traditional European sports car though, it’s a bit clever than that.
The EMERG-E is powered by an electric drivetrain consisting of two electric motors, and a range-extender petrol engine. The petrol engine makes sure the batteris are always topped up to provide the motors with enough charge for their task, which is developing a total output of 402bhp (300kW).The range-extender engine is a three-cylinder unit.
The system provides a zero emission range of 30 miles, 0 to 62mph acceleration in four seconds and CO2 emissions of no more than 55g/km.
The EMERG-E seems like a proper rival for the new Honda NSX.
