Lexus starts production of its finest model currently, the GS 450h hybrid. Based on the new sporty GS, the car the aggressive styling, amazing technology features and the stunning interior, plus the second generation Lexus Hybrid Drive powertrain. The new GS hybrid is being produced at the Tahara Plant, Aichi prefecture, Japan, for its mid-2012 European market launch.

The system that powers this Lexus is  a two-motor full hybrid featuring a V6 Atkinson cycle petrol engine with next generation D-4S direct injection technology. The total output of it is 54 kW/345 hp, which results in more than satisfying performance, with  0-100 km/h in 5.9 seconds and a maximum speed of 250 km/h.

The best part of it however is the average fuel economy which is 5.9 l/100 km, with CO2 emissions of just 137 g/km. That is an improvement of over 23%.

Like the GS 350, the GS 450h will be standard equipped with 10 airbags, including a knee airbag for both driver and front passenger. Rear seat occupants have seat-mounted side airbags, and all four outboard occupants are equipped with side curtain airbags. Also standard are new Whiplash Injury Lessening (WIL) front seats that reduce the space between the occupant’s head and headrest, to help limit excessive head movement, and help decrease the severity of whiplash-type injuries in certain types of collisions. Standard seatbelts with pretensioners with force limiters used for front and outboard rear seats further assist occupant protection.

The Lexus GS 450h will join the GS 250 and the GS 350 AWD to create a three-car range for the European market. Pricing is yet to be revealed.
