Reports from Japan suggest Toyota is already developing a drop-top version of the 86 sports car.

The 86 project head engineer Tetsuya Tada has apparently confirmed this during an interview, saying the car was conceived from the get go with a convertible variant in mind. So basically most of the engineering work has already been done for the Convertible 86.

As far as technicalities, the 86 convertible features the same 200hp 2.0 liter boxer engine as the coupe, but it might be a tad slower, and a tad more expensive, with an estimated price of around 35,000 euro.

All we need know is a launch date. This might stop people who were thinking of getting an 86 from putting their money down. they might want to hang on a bit for the convertible to arrive.
