Yesterday Shelby unveiled its new 1000-hp Mustang GT500, simply called Shelby 1000, opening a new chapter in American muscle car’s horsepower wars. Now check it out in action on the race track. Shelby has improved the car’s suspension and braking, but there’s no getting away from the fact it is still a big, lumbering muscle car through the corners. That big power only adds to chaos.
The Shelby 1000 will be offered in both a street and a Shelby 1000 S/C “off-road” track version. The street legal, pump gas version dyno’s out at approximately 950 HP, while the track oriented S/C edition is rated at over 1,100 HP.

On a side note, the picture you see below was one of the press pictures released yesterday by Shelby themselves. Today USAToday found out they have not been completely honest! They got in touch with Shelby and they confirmed the picture is Photoshopped. So it’s not lifting from the ground because of its immense power, it’s just some computer trick to make it look cooler than it really is.
