At the 2012 Beijing Auto Show Jaguar announced launch of a new trim level for the XJ flagship saloon. Called the Ultimate, this grade as the name suggests is all about luxury and extra garnish, which is why it’s based on the long wheelbase XJ. There’s not much evidence on the exterior hinting at the car’s luxuriousness apart from some new chrome detailing and 20-inch Maroa forged alloy wheels.

The first 20 units of the XJ Ultimate will be offered in the special Celestial Black, but customers can also order their car in Polaris White or other colors they desire. The car is available with all the engines int her range, including the 5.0-litre V8 supercharged petrol engine, its powerful and efficient 3.0-litre V6 turbocharged diesel, and a new 3.0-litre V6 supercharged petrol unit, all mated to an 8-speed auto ‘box.

The Ultimate XJ is all about the interior, and in there all about the rear passengers. At the back of this car you find two unique and individual seats designed specifically for this model, wrapped in semi-aniline leather, with power everything and massage feature. The trims and accents are also unique to this model with piano lack, special ebony wood veneer and brushed aluminum. It all looks like an expensive private lounge.

As for the toys, you get the lot. This XJ comes with a pair of champagne flutes in a bespoke recess flock-lined in either Mauveine or Jet and lit by phosphor blue ambient lighting. Within the centre console are ‘fluteholders’, designed specifically for these glasses and machined from solid aluminium.

There’s also a full entertainment system with no less than four screens, DVD player, digital TV tuner or an external media player that can be synced through the Rear Media Interface, which provides USB and RCA connections. The rear seat environment, including the entertainment, is managed by a wireless controller housed in the centre console and which also allows passengers to alter their individual climate zones and seat heating and cooling functions.

To top it all off, there’s also a top-notch Meridian surround sound system.
