We are hearing from sources inside Jaguar headquarters that the new F-Type sports car will be getting a 5.0 liter V8 engine for its top of the line version. Jaguar has already a new supercharged V6 for the F-Type, but they never gave us a hint about a V8. Actually, maybe they did, but we weren’t paying attention.

We’re talking about this video they released a few days ago – the day they confirmed the new V6 power plant – so we thought it’s a littler teaser for the engine. But couldn’t help but think that noise is a bit too deep and throaty for a V6. Now it makes sense. It could have been the V8.

In any case, it’s good news the F-Type will be getting a V8. As the spiritual successor to the E-Type, we’d say it needed a V12! But if we were to buy this car, we would go for the V6 every time. The F-Type is a light and nimble spots car. You don’t need mega power to have fun with it, especially as the V6 generates 375bhp and 332lb-ft of torque, which is pretty damn good.

That said, the V8 apparently makes 542 horsepower. And that’s bloody tempting.
