FR S Dyno Test at Scion FR S Dyno Test

This time Inside Line technicians strapped the 2013 Scion FR-S to their Dyno machine, see how the new boy does. The 2.0 liter Subaru Boxer engine in this car is rated at 200-hp at 7,000 rpm with a maximum torque of 151 lb-ft at 6,600 rpm. That is the power at the flywheel. Since the FR-S is a rear-drive car, there’s a considerable amount of drivetrain loss. Still, the number of horses that actually make to the rear wheels, and from there to the ground, isn’t that bad.

The whee; horsepower for the FR-S, and therefore for the Toyota GT86 and Subaru BRZ, is  173 horsepower at 7,000 rpm and 143 lb-ft of torque at 2,500 rpm. That doesn’t sound nowhere near enough for a car that’s supposed to be a purebred sports car, but that’s all you get with a 25 grand car. Oh, wait a minute. Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2.0T costs about the same, right?
