Ford is launching a proper hot hatchback in the U.S. market with the 2013 Focus ST. Powered by a 2.0 liter turbocahgred four-pot developing 252 horsepower and 270 lb.-ft. of torque, the ST is also very well equipped with stuff like full-leather, six-way power Recaro seats, unique interior treatment and an advanced three-mode, driver-adjustable stability control system. As a cherry for the top, Ford also throws in a free GoPro HD camera.
No we’re not joking. The first 1000 Pre-sale orders placed between May 1st and August 20th are eligible for the GoPro HD Hero2 Camera System, which will be sent after vehicle delivery. GoPro cams are the what Ken Block uses to film his Gymkhana and is the best way to film a car in action.
Other cool feature of the new Focus ST – or maybe uncool actually – is the sound symposer box. It is like what BMW uses in the new M5, kinda enriching the engine noise by capturing internal engine oscillations and piping them through the interior under throttle.
Ford Focus has always had a great chassis and fun handling. The new model comes with stuff like variable-ratio steering rack and electric power-assisted steering (EPAS) with torque steer compensation. While they’re useful features, they can alter the feel of the car.
