The Sport version of Ford Explorer is the latest and hottest version of the iconic SUV. Now turns out it is also the most expensive, with a base price of $40,720, which after taking the destination charge into account becomes $41,045. So you have to pay a healthy premium over the Limited version for the Sport. But what exactly do you get for your money?
Well on the face of it, not much. you get a 2013 Ford Explorer Sport 4WD, 3.5L EcoBoost V6 Engine with 305 hp, the same you get with the 28 grand base model, and also the same 6-speed Selectshift Automatic with 4WD system and advanced terrain response. Where the Sport starts to edge ahead is the extra garnish.
The Explorer Sport comes with sport-tuned suspension which lowers the ride height, make it less good off-road, but more planted on the road, new fancy colors, 20-inch wheels, blacked-out body part such as the grilles, mirrors and lights, and finer interior trims with two-tone leather upholstery.
Here’s the online configurator for the car, go ahead and create your perfect Explorer Sport. Just keep an eye on the price tag.
The Ecoboost will be good for at least 350hp, like it is in the Taurus and Flex, they just havent released numbers yet. That also gets you a beefed up transmission.
