Yes, the 918 is coming to this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed. But don’t get too excited. It’s the concept version of the Porsche 918 Spyder they’re bringing along, to create more hype prior to its launch in November 2013. You’ve probably seen this car before at one of the auto shows it’s been present, but still, it is quite an interesting car.
First revealed at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show, the 918 Spyder is powered by a V8 petrol engine that delivers more than 500 hp, assisted by two electric motors with a total of at least 160 kW (218hp). That means it has a total output of more than 700 horsepower, while consuming a mere three litres of fuel per 100 km (94mpg). That is an extraordinary achievement, and even more amazing than that, the production car has exactly the same system as the concept.
The design of the production car is a bit different though. It’s basically the same, but thanks to new details it looks less futuristic and more elegant, just as a super car should look. Performance-wise, the 918 accelerates from a standing start to 100 km/h (62 mph) in a maximum of 3.2 seconds and has a top speed of more than 320 km/h (199 mph).
Production of the Porsche 918 is scheduled to commence on September 18 2013 at the main Porsche factory in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen, Germany. Such an advanced car won’t be cheap, of course. it will have a base price of 645,000 Euro. Ouch!
