As we’ve mentioned it a million times before, the new Scion FR-S (Toyota GT86 and Subaru BRZ) features a horizontally-opposed four-cylinder engine. It’s not particularity an interesting subject, but it’s become part of this car’s character. These engines are called ‘Boxer’ because of the way the pistons and conrods move. It’s like a boxer punching a bag. That is clearly shown in this new FR-S ad.
The ad is called ‘Kick Some Asphalt‘ and like all the other ads we’ve seen so far for the car, it focuses on driving fun:

Boxer engines are very compact and they sit very low in the chassis. That is very good for bringing the center of gravity down, which in turn makes the car handle better. The FR-S has a rear-drive chassis built to use the boxer engine, so it’s brilliant in this aspect. We just wish this ‘boxer’ was a heavyweight!
