Toyota released the first official pictures and details of the new generation Auris and Auris hybrid, confirming their world debut at the upcoming Paris Motor Show. As is the case with new models, the 2013 Auris family benefits from upgraded specification, improved quality, and a new distinctive look, which is not pretty at all to be really honest.

Toyota, however, intended for the new Auris to be kind of sportier, so it sits lower to the ground compared to any other C-segment car. The height of the new car is 55 lower than the current model, and that adds up to other little details to give it a a Cd0.28 drag coefficient, thus resulting in greater handling and fuel economy.

The interior too has a whiff of sportiness about it. It looks, sort of, like the GT86’s cabin. The Auris features an Skyview panoramic roof which is the biggest in this segment. Attention to details are truly astonishing in this car, as they have worked on lighting, colours, finishes, and even the font used for the graphics.

The leather-trimmed dashboard and high quality satin silver finish surrounds are among the other signs that this is a premium product.

Practicality and usability have also improved significantly in the new Toyota Auris. Designers have added 20mm to rear seat knee room and 90mm to the loadspace length. All hatchback versions provide more luggage space, at 360 litres. Even in the hybrid model they have repositioned the battery pack so it would have the least effect on the interior space. It’s a very well thought out package.

As for the powertains, you get three to choose from including 1.4-litre diesel and 1.33 and 1.6-litre petrol engines.The hybrid Auris benefits from latest Hybrid Synergy Drive system used also in Lexus hybrid cars. Detailed specs and performance figures will be announced closer to launch.
