Toyota decided to expand the Yaris range in UK this summer by adding to new special editions. Called Yaris Edition and Yaris Trend, both models feature unique styling cures to be distinguished from normal models, such as blacked-out C-pillars for floating roof effect and special wheels. Where they differ is specification and engines.
The Yaris Edition is based on the entry-level T2 grade, but adds 5-inch Podium anthracite (smoke-finished), machined alloy wheels, front fog lamps, rear privacy glass, a dash of extra chrome exterior rear trim, a tachometer and a leather-trimmed gear knob. Air condition is still an optional extra, which is weird, what with this model being a summer special.
The Edition is powered by the1.0-litre VVT-i petrol engine, with five-speed manual transmission. Three and five-door version are offered, from £11,695.
The Trend is the more expensive, but much better version. It is based on the Yaris SR and adds new Podium alloys in 16-inch form and a chrome tailpipe trim. The Toyota Touch & Go multimedia system with satellite navigation can be specified as an option. Power is from the 1.33-litre VVT-i petrol unit, with a choice of six-speed manual or, in the five-door version, Toyota’s Multidrive S CVT automatic.
Prices for the Trend start at £13,795.
