We remember watching this red and yellow Porsche RS Spyder at American Le Mans Series back in 2006 and 2007, where it was one of the top LMP2 contenders. Now the car roars again, this time at the fearsome but stunning Bathurst race track in Australia, and it’s like seeing an old friend! What a magnificent car, what a magnificent track.
The RS Spyder is quite an important race car, seeing as its V8 engine is basically the same unit they put in the production Porsche 918 Spyder, although with way more than the original 480 horsepower.
Th car completed its Bathurst demonstration lap with Dutch sports car ace – and 2008 Le Mans class-winner in an RS Spyder – Jeroen Bleekemolen at the wheel.
Best known for its success in the American Le Mans Series against its more powerful LMP1 rivals, the RS Spyder prototype was the first new project built by Porsche exclusively for racing since its successful 1998 24 Hours of Le Mans campaign with the Porsche 911 GT1.
