Alright, the title sounds a bit weird, but you know what I mean. To show off the depth of engineering in the Camaro ZL1, Chevrolet made a display as you see above, and dispatched chief engineer Al Oppenheiser to explain it to us. That neat underbelly contributes greatly to the ZL1’s aerodynamic efficiency, which in turn contributes to the car’s performance.

That roughly flat underbody in conjunction with carefully designed ducting, and the aero kit on the body, create a considerable amount of downforce to improve the ZL1’s handling at high speed. The air is also channeled underneath the car so it can be used to cool down the brakes and the transmission. In fact only stuff that needed cooling have left exposed.
