Thanks to Ford’s ECOnetic technology, the new Transit Custom 1-tonne van delivers best-in-class fuel economy of 47.1 mpg. That corresponds to CO2 emissions of 159 g/km, which is very good for a commercial vehicle that runs around the city all day, everyday.
ECOnetic Fords come with a number of sophisticated technologies that result in big fuel savings, including Acceleration Control, an innovative new technology that limits the acceleration to levels achievable when the vehicle is fully laden, enabling significant fuel savings when the vehicle is unladen or part-laden.
Other contributing features include switchable 68mph speed limiter, a unique engine calibration, a coolant bypass valve for quicker warm-up, optimised gearing with a six per cent longer final drive ratio, low rolling resistance tyres and aerodynamic wheel trims.
As for the power, the 2.2-litre Duratorq diesel engine in this ECOnetic van delivers 100 PS. Not to mention it is fitted as standard with Auto-Start-Stop system.
This is an incredibly big deal when freight type commercial trucks are reaching this type of MPG. We can really see that changes are starting to happen with these new Hybrid technologies, the only way is up now. We’re getting pretty close to the new efficiency standards set for 2025, we’re really going to need to raise our expectations.
