This year at the Tokyo Auto Salon Toyota and Gazoo showed us a number of very interesting custom cars based on the production models such as the GT86 and the Yaris. But one concept car they brought along caught our eye, and that was the Mark X G Sports.

The reason this car is important is because it shows how Toyota is going to use the expertise they gained working with carbon fiber while developing the LFA in the future production models. The Mark X features a carbon roof that sheds 6 kg off the weight of the car, and also brings the center of gravity down by 3.5mm. Another advantage of using a carbon roof is that it looks cool!

It is not a new technology of course – BMW has been using carbon roofs for years – but we never thought Toyota would someday even think about such solutions. The future seems bright for the Japanese car maker.

The Mark X Concept is powered by a 3.5 liter V6 engine developing 320 hp and 320 Nm of torque.
