Chevrolet is broadening the appeal of its ultra-successful Cruze compact sedan by launching a new Clean Diesel version. This model is powered by the cleanest diesel engine GM has ever produced, with 90 percent less Nitrogen Oxide (NOx) than the previous generation.
The engine in question is a 2.0L turbo-diesel unit, developing 48 horsepower (110 kW) and estimated 258 lb-ft torque (350 Nm). The performance it delivers is not brilliant, but it’s not shabby either. You can go from 0 to 100 km/h in bout 9 seconds in this car. More importantly, it delivers up to 42 mpg (5.6 liters / 100 km).
Equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission, four-wheel antilock disc brakes, 3.20 final drive ratio, 140-amp alternator, 800 cold-cranking amps battery, 17-inch alloy wheels, ultra-low-rolling resistance all-season tires, rear spoiler, Aero Performance Package and leather-appointed seating, Chevy Cruze Clean Turbo Diesel starts at $25,695, including a $810 destination charge.
