LaFerrari-Based Maserati Supercar in the Works

Only a few days after unveiling the new LaFerrari hyper car, Maserati is banging on the door asking Ferrari to let them make their own super car based on it. It’s kind of a tradition. You may remember the Ferrari Enzo was used as the base for Maserati MC12 back in 2004.

As it was the case with the MC12, if they green light the project, which they probably will, it will be slower and a bit cheaper than the Ferrari. Reports say the Maserati version of LaFerrari will ditch the HY-KERS hybrid system and only rely on the 800 horsepower V12 engine. It could also be powered by Maser’s own turbocharged V8 engine used in the new Quatroporte, albeit with heavy modifications.

We are looking forward to see what kind of design Maserati has in mind for the new car. The MC12 wasn’t exactly a beauty, but then it was developed as a racing car. In any case, the Maserati hyper car won’t be due until at least 2015.
