To unveil the new P1 hyper car in style at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, McLaren enlisted the services of their Executive Chairman, Ron Dennis CBE, and Vodafone McLaren’s new driver Sergio ‘Checo’ Perez. They will join BBC Sport’s Formula 1 presenter Lee McKenzie to showcase the production McLaren P1 at the Swiss motor show.
The new McLaren P1 is a true hyper car in every sense of the word, but it is not as groundbreaking as McLaren wants us to believe. Yes, it does have a sophisticated hybrid Powertrain, and yes, it is incredibly lightweight and uses space age technology and materials, but it doesn’t look particularly beautiful and it is not even the fastest car in the world. It only does 350 km/h.
I guess what’s bugging us about the McLaren P1 is that it’s not the best of its kind. We were expecting something like the F1; a game changer. The P1 is just another fast super car with a million dollar price tag. Got enough of those.
