Bentley is planning a new Spuersports model based on the current Continental GT, and based on the latest information coming out of the Crewe factory, it is going to get 650 horsepower from a tweaked W12 engine. It’ll also be lighter and sportier than the new GT Speed.
That doesn’t sound like a huge improvement over the 620-hp Speed, but that’s the way VW Group performance brands operate. Take Porsche and Lamborghini for instance. New versions of their high-end models too get like 20 or 30 more horsepower than the car they slot above.
Instead of going berserk with power, Bentley decided they should focus on reducing kerb weight, sharpening gearchange speeds, revising the chassis settings and improving braking power. The Supersports will have faster, more precise steering than the Speed, as well as firmer suspension and sportier exhaust noise. These are not qualities you’d normally expect from a Bentley, but this model is called Supersports after all.
Bentley is reportedly working on a road-going Continental GT3 as well. To be launched in 2015, this one will get 675 horsepower. Read more @Autocar.
