With the introduction of the Viper TA, SRT proved that although they lack the necessary vision to foresee what the market really wants, they do fix things rather quickly. So when they saw the new Camaro Z/28 at the New York Auto Show, they instantly decided that SRT needs something like this.

And they are already working on a Z/28 rival, as SRT boss Ralph Gilles confirmed in an interview that they will soon reveal their answer to the track-prepped Camaro. He didn’t get into details, but the car in question is almost certainly based on the Challenger SRT8, powered by a HEMI V8 engine.

The recipe for this tight Challenger will be pretty much like the Viper TA; it will be lighter, stiffer, and more agile. The car will have different wheels and tires, and probably a new suspension system to improve the handling. That is a tall order, because as you know the standard Challenger handles pretty much like a barge.

We are looking forward to see these cars slug it out on the race track. Looks like the muscle car culture is changing. Race track is becoming more important than the drag strip.
