During a ceremony at Bentley headquarters in Crewe to celebrate a new £800 million investment – attended by UK Prime Minister David Cameron and Dr Martin Winterkorn, Chairman of the Board of Volkswagen Group – the British car maker officially announced the production of its first-ever SUV in 2016.

They went through the whole meeting talking about the investment, the UK car market, and the 1000 new jobs that Bentley’s new project is going to make. Details of the SUV was not discussed at all. They just promised that it will be a thoroughbred Bentley true to the brand hallmarks of luxury, performance, quality and craftsmanship.

Everybody wanted to know if the Bentley SUV is going to retain the widely unpopular design of the EXP 9 F Concept (pictured below), or will it get a new look. Nobody answered that question, but they did release a teaser sketch (pictured above) that shows a SUV with the same sort of profile as the EXP, with no front and rear. This could be a subtle hint that although the overall shape will remain intact, they are indeed going to redesign the front and rear-end of the car; areas that were the subject of most of the complaints.

In terms of power and luxury, Bentley promises it will be the best damn SUV in the whole world. A brief look at their other products makes that claim seem entirely believable.
