Skoda revealed the prices and specifications of the new Octavia vRS, the fastest Octavia ever, ahead of its showroom launch next month. As you’d expect from Skoda, they are offering a mildly hot car here with very good value. So adjust your expectations before getting too excited about the £22,990 starting price.
The Octavia vRS can be had with two engines; a 2.0 TSI petrol with 220 PS, and a potent 2.0 TDI diesel with 184PS. Both are available with the choice of a six-speed manual transmission or a DSG automatic. The visual features, like the aggressive fascias and smoked lights, suggest the car should be pretty fast. But it isn’t really.
What the vRS offers is a good compromise between performance and practicality. You get 590 litres of boot space with the notchback model, and 610 litres with the estate model. With the rear seats folded, the figures rise to 1,580 litres and 1,740 litres respectively.
Exclusive vRS features that set this car further apart from the normal models include lowered ride height (12mm hatch, 13mm estate) and advanced multi-link rear suspension, electronic differential lock (XDS), and tweaked electronic stability control (ESC).
