Toyota Yaris Hybrid R 1 600x400 at Toyota Yaris Hybrid R Concept Revealed In Full

Toyota finally dropped everything they have about the car that is almost certainly the most interesting concept they have ever come up with. We’re talking about the Toyota Yaris Hybrid-R; a hatchback with a 420 horsepower hybrid powertrain.

The Yaris Hybrid-R also features a pretty muscular body kit that could give tuner some good ideas to use for the standard Yaris. This car is never going to be go anywhere near a production line, but its powertrain is what makes its special, as Toyota says it can be used in a future sports car. So let’s see what’s what.

The hybrid system in this Yaris consists of a 1.6-litre four-cylinder turbo engine, and a couple of electric motors. That 1.6 unit may seem pretty benign, but since it’s fitted with a Garret GTR2560R turbocharger set at 2.5 bar, it alone is responsible for 300 hp of that total 420. The rest is made by the two electric motors, each of which making the equivalent of 60 hp, and teh reason the car is four-wheel-drive.

The electric motors are also used to manage the car’s behavior in corners, by adjusting the power that goes to each of the wheels in and out of apex. They are governed by a sophisticated traction control system that simulates torque vectoring.

Toyota Yaris Hybrid-R rolls on 18-inch TRD wheels fitted with 225/40 R18 Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires. It also has ventilated brake discs with four-piston calipers up front and four-piston out back. A racing interior with Recaro seats and 86 pedal set completes the package.
