To celebrate the recent accomplishment of the 2014 Camaro Z28 in lapping the fearsome Nurburgring in 7:37.4, GM released a new set of pictures showing off the handsome new member of the Camaro family. Don’t be fooled by those muscle car looks. Underneath, this beast is a proper sports car.
I mean any car that can beat the likes of Porsche 911 Carrera S and Audi R8 round the ‘Ring is a proper sports car in our book. Unlike the Germans though, you can clearly see how the Z28 manages to be so sporty. It comes with massive splitter and spoilers, super grippy tires, track-tuned suspension, and a supercharged engine. And the weight-saving has taken its toll on the luxury, as you don’t even get (standard) air conditioning. It compromises on daily driving qualities, but the results are worth the sacrifice.
2014 Camaro Z28 is powered by a 7.0 liter LS7 engine developing 505 horsepower (376 kW) and 481 lb-ft of torque (652 Nm). A close-ratio six-speed manual transmission is the only ‘box offered for it, and it is connected to a limited-slip differential. The German rivals manage to be fast while remaining pleasant to live with on daily basis. The Camaro is not like that. It is a full-blooded track car. That doesn’t make what it’s just achieved to seem any less impressive.
