First it was the turbo, then the hybrid, and now a four-door sedan. Toyota GT86 has become a celebrity in the automotive world, so it is the target of every sort of rumors and reports. The latest report suggests the Japanese car maker has already greenlit a sedan version.
Rumors about the Toyota GT86 Sedan surface only a few days after sources close to Toyota revealed they’ve shelved the GT86 Cabrio. That car makes a lot more sense than a sedan variant, so there is a possibility that these reports are unfounded as well.
That said, Toyota GT86 chief engineer Tetsuya Tada has said a couple of times before that he would like to expand the car’s family, launching new and different models than the coupe. But his ideas must be cleared by Toyota’s marketing department. If they think it is not going to sell, nothing’s going to happen.
The idea of a Toyota GT86 Sedan sounds pretty intriguing though. The GT86 coupe, as you may know, is effectively a two-seater. It does have back seats, but they are really not meant for carrying humans. A sedan is said to be about 4 inches longer than the coupe, with proper rear doors, and of course more headroom. Not sure if such a thing will end up looking normal, but a family car that drives like the GT86 would be amazing.
