The latest edition of the Bentley Flying Spur super luxury sedan will celebrate its American debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show next week. California, and Los Angeles in particular, is one of the largest markets for Bentley cars, and they expect the new Flying Spur to cause quite a stir. It will be joined on display by the Continental GTC V8 convertible and the flagship Mulsanne.
So what do you get with the new 2014 Bentley Flying Spur? For starters, it is one of the fastest luxury sedans in the world, boasting a 6.0-litre, twin turbo W12 engine with 616 horsepower. It enables this big, heavy saloon to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.3 seconds. Given enough road, the Spur can get very close to 200 mph.
But it’s all about the luxury and the feeling you get when you drive, or ride, this car. It has a touch-screen infotainment system with mobile connectivity, including Wi-Fi, and a very clever bespoke hand-held Touch Screen Remote that gives rear-cabin occupants control over an extensive range of features from the comfort of their seats. It’s like iPhone to control most of the car’s features. It’s really cool!
As for the other L.A.-bound cars, there is the Mulsanne with its upgraded super deluxe cabin that features solid metal, fine veneer and hide, adjustable tables and screens for your iPads, complete with keyboard, headphones and everything. The Entertainment Specification is further enhanced with twin, eight inch LCD headrest screens, incorporating a 20 GB hard drive and DVD player, played through a ‘Naim for Bentley’ premium audio system, while two sets of Bluetooth headphones and a dedicated remote control allows additional playback options.
The Continental GTC V8 is also lavished with luxury, but its real party piece is a 4.0 litre, 500hp twin turbocharged V8 engine with 500 bhp and max torque of 487 lb-ft. This is a Bentley you are going to want to drive, to enjoy its 0-60 acceleration time of 4.7 seconds and a top speed of 187 mph, and that magnificent machine gun-like soundtrack.
