Ford Special Service Vehicle 600x450 at Ford SSV Named America’s Most Fuel Efficient Police Car

When we talk about Police cars the very last thing that springs to mind is fuel economy. With Police cars we want to know how fast they are, what kind of engine they have, and what sort of advanced gadgetry is used inside. But Ford Special Service Police Sedan has other ideas. This one is all about economy.

That’s because this version of the Ford SSV (Special Service Vehicle) is not a cruiser. It will never be involved in high speed chases and stuff. It’ll be used as a fleet car for the agencies, shuttling officers around on their daily chores. So it makes for it to be as economical as possible, even if it means compromise on performance.

With an EPA-estimated rating of 20 miles per gallon city, 30 mpg highway and 24 mpg combined, Ford Interceptor Special Service Police Sedan is the most fuel-efficient police car sold in the United States. The car uses a 2.0 liter EcoBoost engine.

This economical Police cars save the agencies some serious cash in fuel bills. Based on the EPA-estimated ratings, fleet cars are driven 30,000 miles per year. The Special Service Police package could save agencies approximately $1,720 over three years compared with the most efficient competitors in the market today. For police agencies operating fleets as large as 150 vehicles, the savings estimate over three years jumps to approximately $257,940. Agencies operating smaller fleets of only 50 vehicles could still see their three-year savings add up to approximately $85,980.

For the patrol vehicles, Ford offers powerful 3.7 liter V6 units, paired with all-wheel-drive.
