Lexus RC Shows Up in a Special Shade of Red

Lexus RC Red 0 600x314 at Lexus RC Shows Up in a Special Shade of Red

As a sort of teaser for the new RC Coupe’s debut at the upcoming Detroit Auto Show and its launch later in 2014, Lexus released new pictures of the car sporting a new and very special kind of red. It is made using an entirely new painting process that gives the car a significant shine missing in normal paint jobs.

In essemce, this shine is brought on by a base coat of silver and a clear coat on top of it before they even start painting it red. Then, the clear coat is covered by a translucent red coat, which is then topped with another clear coat. It is a meticulous paint process using four base coats of paint which are then baked twice.

The silver base gives a depth and a metallic highlight to the red finish of this Lexus RC and that’s what sets it apart. This is actually a production color for the RC coupe, which is set to launch in 2014.

Pictures don’t really do it justice when it comes to special paint jobs and you have to see the car in the flesh to appreciate its real beauty. But still, check’em out below:
