It is quite an occasion when we get to see a super-expensive, ultra-rare hyper car out in the real world. It makes the car look so real and accessible for a few minutes, until the driver puts his foot down and the car becomes but a spec in the horizon in a sea of noise and fury.
The ultra-rare hyper car scooped this time is the McLaren P1, and it’s been caught somewhere in Dubai, filling up with petrol. The driver appears to be a cool guy, because he could have driven away in silent electric mode. But he fired the car up in full-attack mode for the camera. And boy is this thing loud:
The P1 is powered by a hybrid system consisting of an electric motor paired with a twin-turbo V8 engine. Together they make 916 bhp which takes the car to 100 km/h from standing still in slightly over 2 seconds, and take it up to a limited top speed of 350 km/h. Thanks to an electric boost system, the P1 is one of the fastest accelerating cars in the world to 300 km/h. It also has a pure electric mode for pootling around town cleanly and quietly; a feature that will never be used in Dubai because it won’t get you noticed.
