Making convertibles has never been Peugeot’s forte. They were all more of a fashion accessory than car. They looked good great, but there were not much zing and panache about the way they drove. Now, car designer Theophilus Chin believes he’s figured out why. It’s because of the folding hardtop!

He does have a point. These roofs are made up of many different components and they are usually driven by a hydraulic pump. So they are heavy and unreliable, and they also take up a lot of space in the boot. You can use the boot, in fact, when the roof is folded down.

So Theo went ahead and rendered a drop-top version of the 308 with a fabric soft-top. Of course, you can’t see the actual roof in this Peugeot 308 CC, but you can see that the car has proper rear seats. A soft top makes the 308 CC lighter, better to drive, more practical, and more fuel efficient.

Do not expect to see this car in your local Peugeot dealer anytime soon though. Soft-top convertibles market is a crowded place and there are some tough competition in there Peugeot might not be ready to face.
