No more rumors and speculations. Subaru officially announced that an STI version of the new generation WRX sports sedan is indeed coming our way. The car will be previewed by a concept at the upcoming Detroit Motor Show, with a production version to follow later in the year.
Subaru didn’t release any further details as to what the new WRX STI will be like in terms of styling and performance. But if the previous versions of the car are any indication, we can expect an elaborate styling kit garnishing the rather feature-less body of the standard WRX, probably with some gold wheels, a giant spoiler at the back, and an even bigger hood scoop.
In terms of performance, the 2015 Subaru WRX STI will certainly get stiffer sport suspension, more powerful brakes, performance-oriented all-wheel-drive system, and a revised steering system. As for the power, while it is yet to be confirmed, you can expect some seriously good numbers. After all, the 2.0 liter boxer unit in the standard WRX makes 270 horsepower. We reckon the STI will have something in the neighborhood of 350.
Expect to see some sneak previews of the 2015 Subaru WRX STI over the next few days in the run up to the 2014 NAIAS. We’ll keep you posted.
