The new Targa version of the Porsche 911 (991) is the talk of the town. Since Porsche confirmed the car’s debut at the upcoming Detroit motor Show earlier, we were expecting for some sort of leakage from somewhere. And inevitably, it happened. This is the first official picture of the Porsche 991 Targa.
The grainy picture which appears to be a magazine or brochure scan reveals all the important parts that set the Targa apart from normal models. A Targa roof is basically like a large sunroof. It is half way between a solid roof and a full cabrio affair. In the case of the Porsche 991 Targa though, it is not just the open-top experience that makes it special.
The new Targa is said to have a very clever roof arrangement. Porsche themselves call it amazing, but decline to reveal anything further about it just yet. What’s more, the 991 Targa harks back to the early Targa models of the 60s, featuring a unique Targa bar that is a bigger styling element that the roof itself.
Expect more material about the Porsche 991 Targa to leak over the next few days in the run up to the 2014 NAIAS.
