2014 Detroit Motor Show saw the debut of a handsome coupe version of the Cadillac ATS. During their interviews with the press, Cadillac officials mentioned that they are also considering wagon and convertible versions of the car. We’re not interested in the wagon, but here’s what an ATS Convertible would look like.

This is an artist’s rendering of a drop-top Cadillac ATS Coupe featuring a soft-top convertible roof. The straight lines of the ATS’ body, which to be honest make the Coupe look slightly boring, are in favour of the convertible. Thanks to them, the car looks very classy with the roof down, but not so much with it up. But that’s a problem shared by all soft-top convertibles.

Other universal issues with convertible cars include limited boot space and almost non-existent rear leg room. They don’t seem to be putting anyone off though. Coupe-Convertible models have always been very popular, and there is definitely a market for the Cadillac ATS Convertible if they go ahead and make it.

The Cadillac ATS Convertible would be a direct rival for the Mercedes E-Convertible. It can’t directly compete with the BMW 4-Series convertible though, as that features a folding hardtop.
