Subaru face a lot of criticism about their new Legacy sedan, and they were all justified. The car looks boring as hell, and doesn’t really bring anything new to the table. In response to this, they are apparently working on a ‘Sport’ version powered by a new turbocharged engine.

The turbocharged Legacy was discontinued in 2012, as Subaru could find better use for their direct-injection, turbo FA 2.0-liter flat-four in the Forester and the new WRX. Now they believe it can liven things up a bit in the Legacy.

There is no word as to the number of horses the new Subaru Legacy Sport will get, and as for the transmission, chances are it will be the same CVT unit as in the standard model. No manual will be offered, which is a shame, given the fact that it has a taut chassis and a good four-wheel-drive system.

Besides getting a new turbo variant, the new Legacy will get a smaller, more efficient flat-six engine in a few years time, along with a styling refresh. It replaces the current 3.6 liter unit, which is on its way out.
