Mazda has already confirmed the debut of the new generation of Mazda2 at the Geneva Motor Show 2014 in form of the Hazumi Concept. Now the first pictures of the car leaks to the web, revealing a design that would be more at home in one of those CARS animations.
This, of course, is a concept car previewing the real thing. But even so, it looks way too fantastical. What’s going on here, we reckon, is Mazda designed the Hazumi, stood back and looked at it, and realized it looks way too similar to the Mazda6 and Mazda3. So they went ahead and caricaturized the car to make it different.
The production Mazda2 will indeed look similar to its bigger brother though, because that’s Mazda’s new corporate look brought on by the KODO design philosophy. That’s good for Mazda2 buyers who will get a car that people might mistake for a bigger, more expensive model. But Mazda3 owners are not going to be chuffed, because the opposite of that is true about their cars.
The way round this is for Mazda to put the Hazumi in production without any changes whatsoever. Which, of course, is not going to happen, because we’re talking about Mazda here; one of the most sensible car makers in the world.
